Carnage in Rafah and clashes between Israeli and Egyptian soldiers
...while GIPRI urges the ICC Prosecutor to launch investigations against Ursula von der Leyen for complicity in war crimes in Palestine.
Last night Israel “Defense” Forces bombed displaced families near a UNRWA logistics base: Israeli planes targeted their tents at a UN site in the Tel al-Sultan area northwest of Rafah. Soon after the bombing, the Red Crescent stated that its crews were carrying a large number of victims. It was a massacre, a carnage! I do not like posting graphic photos/videos and the following is the least horrific video I have watched from last night:
I think there has been quite a lot of coverage in the western mainstream media (MSM), such as The Guardian, as well as in alternative news outlets, such as Al Mayadeen, so I will not focus much of my attention on this event. As usual Western politicians are condemning Israel’s actions with words, but there is nobody in the governments announcing sanctions against Israel, which is the only way to stop the ongoing genocide. Only Francesca Albanese, United Nations Special Rapporteur on the occupied Palestinian territories, keeps urging states to impose sanctions on Israel, as she did a couple of days ago (as I reported in my previous article):
What has found little coverage in the Western MSM media, at least so far, is the cross-border confrontation between Egyptian and Israeli soldiers near Rafah, a very unusual incident, which however has been reported by Al Mayadeen and Al Arabiya, as well as The Times of Israel. It is still unclear if there are deaths and casualties, as different sources report different information. In any case, to quote Al Mayadeen, “the incident may have significant political consequences”, especially considering the boiling hot situation in Gaza. In fact, to quote The New Arab…
Despite a technical state of peace with Israel since the late 1970s, the Egyptian public has been at loggerheads with their country's successive regimes over normalisation.
Diplomatically and commercially, Cairo treated Israel as a friendly country with strong ties in several areas, but tensions have skyrocketed after Israel launched its war on Gaza last October.
The growing diplomatic spat between the two countries further dipped after Israel had pushed ahead with its ground invasion of Rafah despite pleas from Egypt, the US and others to not invade the border city where around 1.4 million Palestinians from elsewhere in Gaza have been sheltering.
Finally, another interesting titbit that for sure you will not read in the MSM is the request of the Geneva International Peace Research Institute (GIPRI) to Karim Khan, the Chief Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC), to launch investigations against Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, for complicity in war crimes in Palestine. This has been reported earlier today by Al Mayadeen, however the request was submitted 5 days ago, on Wednesday 22nd May 2024. You can find press releases on this on the GIPRI web-site and here as well. It is good that someone is urging the ICC to investigate Ursula von der Leyen for complicity in war crimes in Palestine, but several more people should be brought to the dock: Joe Biden, Rishi Sunak, Emmanuel Macron, Giorgia Meloni, etc.
Drag that privileged bitch to the tumbrel and take her to the National Barber for a haircut!
And Canada's Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, needs to be added to that list.
