Today is Easter in the Catholic world. Easter should mean peace, but not in today’s world. Just look at what has been happening in Ukraine for years and in Palestine for months. Speaking of Palestine, let’s have a look at what’s happened there since the UNSC binding resolution (no matter what the US ambassador at UNSC said!) last Monday, 25th March 2024.
That resolution was demanding an immediate, though temporary, ceasefire in Gaza. However, as reported by Anadolu Agency, on the same day Israeli Foreign Minister, Israel Katz, said that “The State of Israel will not cease fire” and that Israel “will destroy Hamas, and will continue to fight until the return of all hostages to home”.
In fact, fighting has continued and never stopped. Israel even recalled negotiators from Qatar on Tuesday 26th March and intensified strikes in southern Gaza the day after. Then Israel carried out strikes on the northern Syrian city of Aleppo two days ago (Friday 29th March), killing tens of people, and yesterday (Saturday 30th March) they injured 3 UN observers and a translator along the so-called “blue line” on the Israel-Lebanon border. Today Israel has carried out an airstrike in the courtyard of al-Aqsa hospital in Gaza, killing two people and injuring several other; allegedly they were targeting a command centre operated by the Palestinian Islamic Jihad armed group. So, clearly Israel has no intention of complying with the UNSC resolution and surely they are not going to stop bombing anywhere (Gaza, Syria, Lebanon, etc.) just because of ongoing Ramadan or because today is Catholic Easter.
Also, just yesterday the Outlaw US Empire, as Karl Sanchez rightly calls the USA (see this post to understand the reasons why), authorized the transfer of more bombs and warplanes, worth billions of dollars, to Israel. Yet, the day before Joe Biden said that he feels the pain of Arab Americans over war in Gaza… yeah, sure. What a hypocrite!
