Larry C. Johnson, former CIA analyst, has posted on his blog a short analysis of David Pyne’s peace proposal for Gaza. He has actually focussed more on the premises and assumptions of David Pyne’s than on his “peace proposal” itself, which is fair enough. However, in what follows I will focus more on the “peace proposal”.
Why did I put “peace proposal” within quotation marks? Because it is utterly bonkers!
So, let's review it together, bit by bit (I am omitting only the very few parts that make sense - you can find the whole “peace proposal” in the link above):
"In exchange for senior Hamas leaders agreeing to leave Gaza and never return, Israel agrees not to send its troops into West Gaza."
What about forcing all Israeli leaders who ordered the bombing of Gaza to leave Israel and never return? That would be fair."Israeli troops will remain in East Gaza to oversee new elections for a new Gazan parliament to help govern both zones."
Why should Israeli troops remain in East Gaza to oversee new elections? Israelis need to leave that sovereign territory. If anything, international observers should oversee new elections, not Israeli troops."East Gaza will be demilitarized and become a temporary protectorate."
Why should East Gaza be demilitarized? What about demilitarizing Israel?
Also, who should control and protect East Gaza?"Israel will provide for the external and border security of both zones including for its seaports, airports and airspace."
Why should Israel provide external and border security? Shouldn't it be a third party, e.g. a UN-led international force, such as the one along the so-called "Blue Line" between Israel and Lebanon (UNIFIL)?"Gaza will be granted partial self-rule by Israel."
Partial self-rule?!? WTF!?! I am not even going to comment any further on this!"Hamas and Islamic Jihad members will be banned from holding political office at any level."
What about banning all members of Israeli parties in the war cabinet that is allowing the destruction of Gaza?"The new Palestinian Authority shall appoint a Constitutional Commission to draft a new Constitution for Gaza based on Israel’s Basic Law on Human Dignity and Liberty granting Gaza residents the same rights and liberties accorded to Israeli permanent residents living in East Jerusalem. These rights shall include protections for the rights to life, liberty, free speech, religion, and assembly as well as the rights of freedom of thought and expression guaranteed by Israel."
All good in principle, but the problem is that these rights have never been guaranteed to Palestinians by Israel so far!"There shall be no war crime tribunals for either side except for Hamas militants that violate the terms of this agreement."
WHAT? Israel has annihilated Gaza and its leaders should not be trialled in an international war crime tribunal? Let's not forget that there is a trial at the ICJ against Israel on charges of genocide initiated by South Africa: this MUST be allowed to continue and Netanyahu, Gallant & co. MUST be brought to the dock!
What Hamas did on 7th October 2023 pales in comparison with what Israel has been doing since then!"There shall be no war reparations aside from monetary judgments against Hamas militants who violate this agreement and are convicted of terrorist acts to repay the families of the victims."
What if Israel violate the terms of this agreement? And why shouldn't Israel pay war reparations to Gazans?"A multi-national force led by Egypt will take charge of Gaza’s reconstruction."
Why should Egypt and other third-party countries take charge of Gaza's reconstruction? It should be Israel to do this. It is Israel who is destroying Gaza and it MUST be Israel to clear Gaza from the rubble and rebuild everything, under strict control of third-party observers, e.g. a UN-led coalition."Israel pledges to assist in rebuilding Gaza’s critical infrastructure damaged or destroyed during the war beginning with hospitals."
Israel pledges to assist in rebuilding? See my point above."Israel commits to withdraw its troops to their pre-war positions and restore full sovereignty to Gaza after a new constitution has been approved and implemented, new democratic elections have been held and a Palestinian security force has been trained to counter a potential resurgence of Hamas in East Gaza."
I think I have covered similar issues in other points above, so I am not going to repeat myself.
To sum up, this is something like the Zelensky’s formula applied to Gaza. I am not equating them 100%, as there are obvious differences, but I am sure I have made myself quite clear.
Not only the genocidal Zionist maniacs pay for reconstruction of Gaza, 90% of the reconstruction costs MUST be paid for by the military industrial complex & the government of the US who is COMPLICIT in this genocide.
