Turkey will take part in Arab League meeting for first time in 13 years
...while Israel lobbies US Congress to threaten South Africa to block prosecution at the ICJ over genocide and war crimes in Gaza.
As I mentioned yesterday in this article, Turkey is quite serious in its endeavours in calling for an Islamic alliance against Israel, so serious that it is not only restoring its diplomatic relationships with Syria and Egypt, but, for the first time in 13 years, Turkey will also take part in the meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Arab League, after being invited by the latter, as reported by Al Mayadeen, quoting the Turkish Anadolu Agency. The Council of Foreign Ministers meeting will take place tomorrow (Tuesday 10th September 2024) in Cairo (Egypt) and Hakan Fidan, the Turkish Foreign Minister, “is expected to speak at the opening session, where he will focus on Turkish-Arab relations and regional issues”, with top priority being the situation in Gaza. It has also been reported that Fidan is working on normalization of Turkish relations with Gulf states too. And tonight Al Mayadeen has reported that Turkey will…
'take every legal step' to ensure that slain activist Aysenur Eygi's blood 'does not go in vain', including by appealing to The Hague, says Erdogan.
Israel should be really worried, but, instead of trying to find a compromise with Hamas on a ceasefire deal, Benjamin Netanyahu tries to bring the talks back to square one by setting up new conditions as a basis for negotiation, according to Izzat al-Rishq, a member of Hamas' political bureau, as reported in another Al Mayadeen article. Actually, Israel is even trying to set the whole Middle East on fire by bombing Syria, as reported also by the Western mainstream media (MSM), e.g. The Guardian.
Not only this, but Israel is also lobbying the US Congress to threaten South Africa to block prosecution at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) over genocide and war crimes in Gaza. This move, led by Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz, aims to use the political and economic power of the US to silence anyone who dares to seek justice for the victims of Gaza. According to a classified cable revealed by Axios, Israel is trying to force South Africa to drop its case against them for genocide, threatening serious political and economic consequences, including the suspension of US-South African trade agreements.
It is also worth mentioning some interesting remarks by former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak and by Israeli Reserve General Tal Rousso, as reported by Al Mayadeen. The former, in an interview with Israel Hayom on Sunday, stated the following (emphasis mine):
The reality is harsh. Israel did not win on October 7, nor has it won the ongoing war. In fact, we are nearer to defeat than to victory.
…and he emphasized the importance of preventing a war with Lebanon, highlighting the risk of a broader regional war, if Israel keeps engaging Hezbollah.
The latter, Israeli Reserve General Tal Rousso, talking to Israeli Kan 11 News channel, stated that the…
entire leadership responsible for the events of October 7 and those connected to it, even prior leaders, must recognize that their roles have come to an end.
…and he also claimed that Israel has “lost control of the north [near Lebanon] and is engaged in a war of attrition” on both fronts (i.e. Gaza and Lebanon).
In another article Al Mayadeen reported the following statement by retired Brigadier General Yitzhak Brik on Israeli newspaper Haaretz, where he also highlighted the high losses Israel is sustaining in Gaza:
The day will come when the IDF will no longer be able to remain in the Gaza Strip because Hamas will be in full control of it – both in the underground tunnel city that stretches hundreds of kilometers and above ground.
In the same article in the last link above, Al Mayadeen also reported about the confession of Adina Moshe, a released Israeli hostage previously held by Palestinian Resistance factions in Gaza, to Israeli broadcaster Channel 12: she was asked by the Israeli Shin Bet security service “to draw a map of the tunnels in Gaza” and “to describe the tunnels, their pathways, their locations, and the communication devices and wiring installed in them”, thus revealing that the Israeli military has no real knowledge of the Resistance's tunnel infrastructure, as if they have never been in one… yet we are to believe that they regularly find them, especially under hospitals! Here are a few statements by Adina Moshe from her interview with Channel 12, as reported by Al Mayadeen:
The Shin Bet asked me to draw a map of the tunnels in Gaza because they know nothing about them.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is lying, and neither he nor the military know anything about Hamas' tunnels in Gaza.
Meanwhile, more than one month has passed since the Israeli assassination of Hamas political leader, Ismail Haniyeh, in Tehran, and the Commander-in-Chief of the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), General Hossein Salami, is still warning that “the Zionist enemy will taste the bitterness of Iranian revenge”, releasing the following statement during a speech delivered at a conference:
The Israeli regime is now confined within the occupied lands, and its leaders are losing their mental stability, awaiting death at any moment. Rest assured, the response will come. When and how? This time, it will be different, and everyone will know that Israel can no longer strike and escape unscathed.
What is Iran plotting? Only time will tell.
