Similarities - The United Nations have never expelled any member state. However, in 1974 an attempt was made to expel apartheid South Africa: a case with several similarities to today.
the UN needs to be updated and the structure modified from what it is now... this also involves the security council members who have a veto over anything.. at present the usa vetoes all mandates that attempt to reign israel in... so essentially the change either comes from the usa - extremely unlikely, or the UN gets modified to respond to challenges differently then it has to date.. i think russia and china are interested in making these changes, and perhaps even creating an alternative structure if the UN is unable to make the changes needed here in 2024 to reflect a different world from 1945,,,
Yes, the UN needs to be updated/restructured, but it is impossible with the Outlaw US Empire and its lackeys blocking any reform that goes against its hegemonic interests. That's why, in my opinion, it is important to kick out Israel first, to send a signal to the Outlaw US Empire that next time it would be its turn.
Ditto UK , especially while we have a Zionist pm and most of our government is bought by Friends of Israel. Thing is I think the populists would love to pull us out of the UN too. Just like they did the EU and what to do with the ECHR …the free economic zones already show that where they can they will trample all human rights or environmental concerns to ensure maximum profit for a handful of shareholders bloated on blood money.
Just want to note that 1200 Israeli citizens were not massacred on October 7th. This number has been massively scaled back to nearer 900 and the majority of these were military personnel not civilians, just like the majority of those captured as prisoners of war by Hamas are military personnel as they released most of the civilians who overwhelmingly said they were well treated (they are lucky the IDF didn’t shoot them as they have done so with others and bombed areas they suspected POW to be kept. A large proportion of the casualties and deaths on oct 7 were caused by the IDF and its Hannibal Protocol where it targets its own civilians rather than allow them to be taken. These deaths included the twins they used in the Israeli lies propaganda (their house was clearly destroyed by IDF weaponry) , many civilians were killed in wholesale attacks on any moving targets including cars heading towards the border or in the area. They did not discriminate between Israelis or Palestinians. Estimates now put at around 300 being murdered by Israelis. There were no beheaded babies (only baby sadly killed was accidentally shot through a door) and there no evidence of any other decapitations or torture neither is there any evidence at all of rape (a pr man was brought in to work out what lie would generate the most sympathy and outrage as the beheaded babies lie wasn’t cutting it and his research came back with rape). The Israelis themselves have admitted these were lies yet the rabidly pro Israel MSM , UK , Ger, Aus and US governments keep repeating these lie even when they know without a doubt that they are nothing but propaganda to try and justify the crimes that Israel is committing against whoever stands in their way (torture, rape, burning alive, unfair detainment, sniping babies in the head, blowing up devices). Asa Winstanley got raided in the early hours of the morning, the devices he needs to work removed and threatened with imprisonment for speaking the truth about those attacks and the Israeli lies. https://open.substack.com/pub/asawinstanley/p/how-israel-killed-hundreds-of-its?r=1v0bri&utm_medium=ios
I wonder what the UNSC could authorize against a state which has been expelled from the UN itself. Not that it matters in this case, because the UNSC would veto any such action against Israel.
I've read that it would take a UN General Assembly Resolution under the "United for Peace" Resolution to enable member states to take military action against a country in violation of UNSC Resolutions but where the UNSC is unable to authorize military action.
According to Wikipedia: "The Uniting for Peace resolution was implemented 13 times between 1951 and 2022. It has been invoked by both the Security Council (eight times) and the General Assembly (five times). Eleven of those cases took the form of an Emergency Special Session. "
Since then, Israel has been the subject of several such Emergency Sessions:
Middle East (1967) – USSR failed to obtain 9 votes – 5th Emergency Special Session
Further information: Six-Day War
Invoked by General Assembly at the request of USSR (A/6717) and vote (98-3-3). The Fifth Emergency Special Session on "The Situation in the Middle East" adopted six resolutions, including Resolutions 2253 (ES-V) and Resolution 2254 (ES-V) calling on Israel to rescind unilateral measures in Jerusalem.
Palestine (1980) – US veto – 7th Emergency Special Session Invoked by General Assembly at the request of Senegal (A/ES-7/1). The Seventh Emergency Special Session on "The Question of Palestine" adopted eight resolutions (ES-7/2 through ES-7/9) calling for the unconditional and total withdrawal of Israel from territories occupied since 1967.
Middle East (1982) – US veto – 9th Emergency Special Session Invoked by Security Council Resolution 500. The Ninth Emergency Special Session on "The Situation in the Middle East" adopted Resolution ES-9/1 declaring Israel a non-peace-loving state and calling on members to apply a number of measures on Israel.
Palestine (1997) – US veto – 10th Emergency Special Session Invoked by General Assembly request of Qatar (A/ES/10/1). The Tenth Emergency Special Session on "The Question of Palestine", still in session, adopted inter alia, Resolution ES-10/14 requesting an advisory opinion from the International Court of Justice.
So apparently even this mechanism has not been successful in restraining Israel, due to US vetoes.
In my view, it is no longer useful to consider the UN as relevant either as the UNSC or the UNGA. The only resolution of this situation will come via a war between the US/EU/Israel on one hand and Iran/Axis of Resistance on the other.
Trump said he'd refuse to assist NATO countries that had not paid their dues. I didn't realize that the USA had supreme power over NATO but, I guess Canada will be the first out the door.
Let's all hope there are no stray Chinese weather balloons or Russian/Iranian missiles running out of fuel before they clear Detroit or Chicago on their way to DC.
as a canadian, i wish canada would leave nato... but it is highly unlikely.. nato is a tool of western dominance at this point, which is different then the UN, although in some ways it acts in a similar manner..
There is no democracy in the West: not only at national level, but also at international level, but luckily the hegemony of the Outlaw US Empire is coming to an end.
I was referring to Trump not Netanyahu (I know this is Wiki but seems accurate on this bit). I probably should clarify he withdrew from a number of UN bodies including the human rights council, not the whole UN. I think I was thinking of NATO. I suspect removing the US from any oversight would suit his agenda very well.
“Under President Donald Trump, the U.S. withdrew from the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) in October 2017 and June 2018 respectively.[3][4] The United States also announced its intention to withdraw from the World Health Organization on July 6, 2020, effective one year later.[5] However, the withdrawals from the WHO, the UNHRC, and UNESCO were later rescinded by Trump's successor, president Joe Biden.[6]”
Hope this helps. Sorry I also am not aware of Israel saying it wants to withdraw. While it has the UK , US and possibly German vetos it is sitting pretty it seems and can continue till ignore any resolutions against their illegal occupation, apartheid and genocide.
I don’t understand how a country that is physically attacking UN staff can be allowed to remain.
Expelling Israel from the UN would be completely appropriate. I'd love to see the USA booted out, since it's supported so much terror in the world, but I don't think that will happen.

easier said then done!!
True, but I have never said that it would be easy. :)
For that, see Richard's comment.

Regarding the origin and meaning of "Outlaw US Empire", please read the following article by Karl Sanchez: https://karlof1.substack.com/p/the-world-the-usa-is-an-outlaw-empire?utm_source=publication-search
He has threatened to leave the UN anyway. If he gets in he doesn’t want anything interfering with his planned dictatorship.
I must have missed this. Do you have a link to articles/reports about Netanyahu threatening to leave the UN?

Thank you. Sorry I did not understand you were talking about Trump.
My fault I should’ve made it clear. I can’t seem to edit it now.
It's ok. :)

If Israel is kicked out, the Outlaw US Empire would be next.
Not ‘ send out’ - expel😊
Thanks. I have corrected it: now it is "kick out", as in my comment at the end of the article.
😊👏 I think they deserve a very big kick🥶
