Israel has to increase its exposure to Hezbollah - and take the damage that will result - in order to trigger US involvement, which is the ultimate goal of this entire conflict so far.
The same applies to Iran. In fact, I am wondering if Iran is actually delaying its retaliation for the last Israeli strike simply because by doing so they delay the US entry into the war. Iran probably knows that their promised severe retaliation - one which causes significant damage to Israel - is likely to provoke the US to retaliate itself.
That will be the tipping point because after the US strikes Iran, Iran will have to target all the US assets in the region - and not in a "tit-for-tat" manner as it has done so far. It will be a case of "use it or lose it" - whoever takes out the enemy's assets first will have the advantage. Iran also has the advantage that many of its assets are underground and can function independently whereas the US bases in the region are not and can not.

One of the most glaring realities on full display, is the very same one that people like to ignore. Every time Israel does something, there is usually a retaliation from multiple vectors. It could be the Houthis, it could be Hama's, it could Iraq PMC, it could Hezbollah or it could be Iran itself. And they DO attack with consistency. That's why Israel is failing to entice Iran into a whatever calculation it's attempting to lure in US involvement.
As for US involvement, that is also something at this current juncture, that is very tricky. US is in a political transitional phase, and as such has to project the appearance of being the adult in the room, despite of it's foreign policy towards the Levant. Israel is a cornered frothing at the mouth mangy dog. It can stir in it's own created fire for a while until Trump gets sworn in. I don't think it's lost on the US how Israel (via Netanyahu) has set the stage for their own demise, step after step, all the whilst refusing advice. Deep state Israel firsters like Blinky Blinken carry the entire responsibility for this ideological blunder. He valeted this thing into motion. Israel is alone for the moment.
